|Although born in Melbourne, Melville Haysom (1900 - 1976) relocated to Brisbane in 1929 and immersed himself in the Brisbane art scene. He wrote art criticism for the Brisbane Observer, stood as President of the Queensland Art Society, and taught painting at the Brisbane Central Technical College. Haysom is best known for his coastal scenes and landscapes, and his works feature in the Queensland Art Gallery and University of Queensland collections. A scholarship is awarded in his name by the Queensland Art Gallery for promising artists aged under 25.|
