|Born in Adelaide, Mortimer Menpes (1855 – 1938) was an established painter in London during the 1870s. He is particularly significant for his sketches of Japan in the late 19th century and later became a portrait painter of London society figures. The National Library of Australia held a retrospective of his work in 2002. |
