 Roland Wakelin (1887-1971) was a leading figure in the Sydney Modernist Movement during the 1920s and 1930s. He trained with Datillo Rubbo at the Royal Art Society in 1912. After a two year period in London he returned to Sydney in 1924, joining the Contemporary Group. A large retrospective of his work was held in 1967 at the AGNSW. His work is held by the National Gallery of Australia and most state galleries.
