David Strachan (1919-1970) was a member of the George Bell group in the 1930s, and later the Sydney Charm School during the 1940s. He spent time in Hill End in the 1960s with Jean Bellette and her husband Paul Haeflinger. He was awarded the Wynne prize in 1961 and 1964. A major retrospective of his work was held in 1973 at the AGNSW. Strachan's work is held by the National Gallery of Australia and and most state galleries.
