Tony
has been exhibiting at Philip Bacon Galleries since
1974. He was born in Sydney, Australia, where he graduated
from the University of Sydney, and although he earned
a degree in architecture, his heart was in jewellery
design.
Tony has the distinction of exhibiting his one-of-a
kind jewellery creations in the capitals of the world
to a clientele with an appreciation of his unique
artistry and opulent use of precious gems. He is
distinguished for having a selection of his designs
in the permanent collection of the Australian National
Gallery. In 1994 he was honoured and his jewellery
exhibited in Washington, D.C. during a week of celebrations
honouring the talents and artistry of Australia,
and hosted by the Australian Ambassador to the United
States. In 1993 Tony White was honoured in New York
City at a reception hosted by the Australian Consul
General.
There are no solitary diamonds in a Tony White Collection.
No strand of perfectly matched pearls. He favors
enormous South Sea Pearls in sea washed colours.
His collections of ancient Intaglios and Tassie Glass
stylishly incorporated into rings and necklaces are
considered among the finest examples in the world.
Tony’s Australian Opal collections could easily
be called extroadinary. Tony thinks coloured stones,
unusually carved, massive and exotic shaped pearls,
and designs of unique style with a sense of distinction
are more interesting to today’s active women
than formal jewels.
For many years Tony travelled extensively for inspiration,
buying selected stones and having private showings
all over the world, the most notable of which was
in 1986 for the royal family of Brunei, where his
entire collection was bought intact.
Tony makes his home in Sydney when not travelling
for inspiration or the acquisition of rare stones,
or presenting new collections across the world. Originally
trained as an architect his home is considered one
of the finest in Sydney and houses his showroom.
Many of Tony’s pieces are carved and shaped
by the renowned Moghul carvers of India, who follow
a tradition over 400 years old. Other pieces are
rare and irreplaceable European carved stones, intaglios
dating from the first and second century A.D., through
the 18th and 19th century.
Tony White jewellery is designed to reflect the
lifestyle of a contemporary woman…who insists
on wearing one-of-a-kind creations uniquely designed
of extravagant stones and incomparable craftsmanship.
Tony says that stones, like peole, don’t have
to be faultless: natural forms complement the human
body.
His works have become world renowned with some notable
collectors among his fans including the Duchess of
Westminster and Lauren Bacall.
