I
first became aware of the work of Robert Barnes about
six or seven years ago, when I saw one of his paintings
in a mixed exhibition. His canvas stood out with its
sheer energy, conception, composition, and most of
all, marvelous use of paint.
Since then, I have been following his career, and
buying his paintings for such collections as the
Art Gallery of New South Wales, the New England Regional
Art Museum and the Newcastle Region Art Gallery.
I believe in him as a painter, and as one whose
talent has so far not been fully recognized.
